Psychology (A-Level)

This course explores the science of human behaviour and its vital connection to the digital world, developing your research and critical thinking skills through practical projects for careers in fields like AI and UX design.

Why study A-Level Psychology at Ada?

If you’re interested in people and why we do the things we do, this course brings computer science into the human arena.

A-level Psychology lets you explore the fascinating science behind human behaviour, from how we think and learn to why we interact the way we do. It’s a journey into the social, cognitive and neurological aspects of human interaction and explores the motives involved in human behaviour and links well to many aspects of technology, AI, Gaming, Programming, Robotics, advertising, social media.

You’ll dive into scientific methods, conduct your own research for investigations and learn crucial skills like critical thinking, effective communication, and independent study. This subject is perfect for those curious about people and it is very relevant for digital careers too! Think about designing user-friendly apps (UX/UI), understanding how people use technology (Human-Computer Interaction) or even building AI that understands human needs. Psychology is key to all of this.

What will I learn?

You’ll explore the fascinating mechanics of the human mind, covering topics like Memory, Attachment, and Psychopathology, alongside specialist areas such as Forensics and Neuroscience.
You will develop advanced critical thinking skills by evaluating psychological theories and conducting your own practical investigations into human behaviour.

How will I be assessed?

Learning goes beyond the classroom through industry-linked projects where you’ll apply psychology to tech, such as using persuasion techniques in “persona” creation or studying Human-Computer Interaction.
You’ll also experience psychology in action through trips to the Freud Museum and the Old Bailey, while developing the “Ada Values” of curiosity and collaboration through experimental research.

How will I be taught?

Exam Board: AQA

Assessment is focused on academic rigour and exam technique, featuring a mix of formal timed essays and independent research reports. At the end of the course, you will sit three 2-hour written papers, all of which include mathematical calculations to analyse data from psychological research.
