MATHS, FURTHER MATHS & MATHS STUDIES

Do you get excited by problem-solving with numbers? Bridge the gap between maths and technology by taking Maths as part of our Pioneer Pathway.

WHY MATHS?

Our Maths offer allows budding mathematicians to find answers with complex equations and logical thinking. Join the dots between Maths and technology with an interactive and out-the-box course structure. We incorporates a thorough review of core maths, mechanics and stats. You will also have the opportunity to take the Further Maths A Level, dependent on your GCSE Maths results.

We also offer Maths Studies: an equivalent to 1/2 an A Level which extends mathematical skills developed during GCSE and supports other subjects with a mathematical component. It is highly recommended that students take this qualification alongside the Extended Diploma in Computing, particularly if they are interested in a university progression route.

Maths runs the world. Did you know that working in robotic technology involves algebra and geometry? Or that medical engineering requires understanding of differential equations? If you have an interest in Maths, we encourage you to join us and delve into real-world maths application.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

MATHS A LEVEL

The Mathematics A Level course is composed of three main areas:

  • Pure mathematics - including calculus, advanced trigonometry, vectors, advanced functions and mathematical proof
  • Statistics - including descriptive statistics, probability distributions and hypothesis testing
  • Mechanics - including constant and variable acceleration kinematics, forces, moments and projectile motion

The course at Ada encourages students to explore mathematics through the use of collaborative problem-solving, independent investigation and technology. Students will use graphing software and write programs to solve problems and explore the links between mathematics and computer science.

FURTHER MATHS A LEVEL

Further Pure Mathematics, plus two or three choices from:

  • Further Mechanics
  • Further Statistics
  • Modelling with Algorithms
  • Numerical Methods
  • Extra Pure
  • Further Pure with Technology

MATHS STUDIES

  • Critical Analysis: Fact-check maths in the media, culture and politics.
  • Maths for Personal Finance: Understanding savings, loans, tax and budgeting.
  • Analysis of Data: Analyse, visualise, and interpret data using industry-standard tools.
  • Estimation: Make useful estimates given limited information.
  • Critical Path and Risk Analysis: Advanced project management skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To study A Level Maths, students must have achieved at least 5 GCSE qualifications, with an average grade of a 5 or above. This must include a grade 4 or above in English Language and a grade 7 or above in Mathematics. The same requirements apply if a student wishes to study Further Maths.
