1. What impact have the ada Apprentices had?
After initial learning and training on the technologies used, the apprentices were soon able to gain knowledge and begin work on meaningful deliverables, providing them with a great understanding of the domain and ways of working. They were integrated into the pod with immediate opportunity to provide input and suggestions.
2. Have you seen apprentices bring NEw approaches to problem-solving?
Yes. Apprentices are given opportunities to perform their own investigations and develop solutions. This has included work on Big Query reservations and the use of Gen AI to optimise SQL statements. The prompt for this has been refined and improved to overcome challenges identified in development. Demos to wider teams have received excellent feedback.
3. How well do you feel the Ada apprenticeship model prepares apprentices?
Ada provide several weeks of initial training prior to the apprentice joining the team. This is not only valuable for preparing them for work in the company but also for building an initial network of peers who can support and learn from each other.
4. What would you say to another manager, about to HIRE their first Ada apprentice?
Embrace them and integrate them into the team as much as possible. Provide guidance and support, especially in the early weeks and months but also challenge them and give them opportunities to show what they are capable of.
We can learn from them as well as them learning from us.
